About Colour Reaction
What it measures
This test measures chromatic discrimination latency — the time required for retinal cone photoreceptors and the visual cortex (V4 area) to identify a specific hue and initiate a motor command.
Choice vs Simple Reaction
Simple reaction tests only require detecting any light flash (~250ms). Colour reaction tests require cognitive chromatic filtering, adding 30-50ms of cortical processing time. the data
Retinal Cone Pathways
Parvocellular pathways carry red-green chromatic data while magnocellular pathways process rapid motion and luminance, explaining the difference in transmission speed.
Chromatic Recognition
Rapidly processing and reacting to the target hue exercises retinal cone discrimination and cortical visual pathways.
Monitor gamut & refresh rate
Modern IPS and OLED displays with high refresh rates and fast pixel response times deliver the most consistent color response timings.
